Trademark Monitoring

A registered mark is not finished work. New applications keep arriving, and some will come close to yours. We watch for them so you do not have to.

Why watch the registers

Trademark offices publish new applications. If a similar mark appears and nobody notices, it may be registered, and it becomes harder to deal with later. Catching it early gives you the most options.

The time you have to react to a published application is often short and differs from country to country. A watch means the clock does not start without you knowing.

What is included

  • Regular checks of new filings in the countries and categories you choose
  • Matching by spelling, sound and meaning, not just exact letters
  • A specialist reads the hits and filters out the noise
  • A short note on anything that looks relevant, with the dates that apply to it
  • A periodic summary, even when nothing was found

How it works

  1. Set upWe agree on your marks, countries and categories.
  2. We watchNew filings are checked against your marks on a regular schedule.
  3. We tell youWhen something looks close, you get a message with what we found and what we think.
  4. You chooseThe next step is yours. We explain the options and can carry out what you decide.

Monitoring tells you what has been filed. It does not stop anyone from filing, and it works only for the countries and categories you include.

Common questions

What does monitoring do?

We check new trademark filings in the countries and categories you choose, and tell you when one comes close to your mark, with the dates that apply to it.

Does monitoring stop others from filing a similar mark?

No. It tells you what has been filed. It does not stop anyone from filing, and it covers only the countries and categories you include.

Why does timing matter?

After an application is published, others usually have a short period to oppose it, and the period differs by country: for example 30 days in the US, 2 months in the UK and 3 months in the EU. A watch means that clock does not start without you knowing. See the filing process.

What do I need to send you?

Your mark or registration details, the countries to watch, and the goods or services it covers.

What happens when you find something?

You get a message with what we found and what we think of it. The next step is yours. We explain the options and can carry out what you decide. If you want to act against the other mark and it needs a dispute in that country, we can arrange a partner there: see trademark disputes.
