About this service
A patent is granted only for something new. A search shows how close earlier inventions come, which helps you decide whether to file, how to word the application and whether a product might run into someone else's patent. There are different kinds of search: for novelty before filing, for freedom to operate before a launch, and of a whole field for ideas.
What is included
- A search of patent databases and published literature, in the languages that matter for your field
- A review of the closest documents, with the relevant passages marked
- A written report in plain language, with our view on the findings
- Suggestions for the next step: file, change the invention, or look at a licence
How it works
- Tell usDescribe what you have and what you want to achieve, and in which countries.
- We lookA specialist studies your case, with a local partner where the work is in another country.
- We reportYou get our findings and a plain-language recommendation, with a written quote for the next step.
- You decideNothing is filed or charged without your approval. We carry out what you decide.
No search can cover every document in the world. A search lowers the risk but cannot remove it, and it is not an opinion on whether a patent would be granted or is valid.
